Final Analysis

 4.01
Tony Holm
RB Darren McFadden (R)
QB: RB: Grant Parker McFadden  WR: RMoss TE: PK:

Swinging for the fences again.  McFadden is one of the finest RBs to come out of college period and should be a long time participant in Hawaii for years to come.  Yes there's some competition but the Raiders didn't pick McFadden to sit on the bench.  McFadden has everything, Hershel Walker like vision, Marshall Faulk like hands and can throw the ball exceedingly well.  Look for a number of option plays to McFadden this year as he totals up stats for you in a variety of scoring categories.  The knock against McFadden is his fumbling, 15 last year, but if you look closely, you'll notice they were primarily on special teams, the Raiders are working with him on holding the football and I think they'll have a heck of a RB to open 2008 with.

4.02
Matt Pitzer
WR Torry Holt

QB: RB: Barber Bush WR CJohnson Holt TE: PK:
I thought about taking a quarterback with either my third or fourth round pick, but with Holt being the last available of what I consider the premier receivers, he had too much value to pass up here. With a healthy year out of Marc Bulger and the Rams offensive line, Holt will be back to getting a ton of receptions and give me a good 1-2 punch at receiver with Chad Johnson.

4.03

Greg Kellogg
WR Brandon Marshall

QB: Romo RB: Portis RBrown  WR: Marshall TE: PK:

Brandon Marshall is the last of the top receivers and I felt I could not risk losing him before my next pick. Marshall proved he is an elite receiver by stepping up when Javon Walker went down last season. By the end of the season, after Walker returned it was Marshall that led the Broncos in receiving. I look for similar results this year.

4.04

Duane Cahill
RB Earnest Graham

QB: Brady RB: LJohnson Graham WR: Boldin TE: PK:
By grabbing Anquan Boldin with my third pick, I was still able to secure one of the final four running backs that I'd targeted as my RB2.  To no surprise, two of the other three were snapped up by Mr. Holm, who adds Willie Parker and Darren McFadden to Ryan Grant for a pretty good trio of backs.

The choice here was really Earnest Graham or Brandon Jacobs, and while I don't see Jacobs lasting another five picks, I chose Graham for two reasons.

First, he looks to be the clear-cut starter in Tampa Bay, with Cadillac Williams probably another year from returning from the torn patellar tendon (as evidenced by the signing of Warrick Dunn as depth on the roster).  Second, Ahmad Bradshaw certainly came on in the final four games of the Giants' season, and likely convinced Tom Coughlin and crew that he merits consideration for 10-15 touches per game - touches that will come at Jacobs' expense.

4.05
Ian Allan
WR Wes Welker

QB: RB: SJackson  WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker TE: PK:

There are nine receivers in this draft that I like. We’re excited to have three of them — three guys who might catch 100 passes each. I see Welker as a safe bet to finish with 100 grabs, 1000 yards and 6 TDs. That would make him worth 236 points in this format. So we can't let him past this point in the draft. There are 12 teams in this draft. Each is going to need at least four good receivers. That's 48 receivers. But there aren't that many good ones available. I'd rather solidify this position now, rather than wind up battling later for guys like Mark Clayton, D.J. Hackett and Justin Gage.

4.06

Chris Dolfi | Tom Walls
RB Brandon Jacobs

QB: RB: Lynch Jones-Drew Jacobs WR: Housh TE: PK:

This is a case of letting the draft come to you. We looked at Jacobs last round, but getting a guy with 112 receptions last year won out.

Jacobs had a shockingly low TD total last year (only 6), we expect more from him this year as the ‘goal line back’. He is expected to  split time with second year phenom Bradshaw and Derrick Ward, but Jacobs is in a  contract year. We love starting RBs in contract years.

A second WR would have been nice here, but we simply could not pass up this great value.

4.07

Shannon O'Leary
RB Rudi Johnson

QB: RB: Gore Lewis RJohnson WR: Fitzgerald TE: PK:
Rudy may be exiting his prime, but if he is the main ball carrier for the Bengal’s and the Bengal ’s offense picks back up, Johnson could be a top ten back. The biggest concern I have with drafting Johnson is the disarray the team is experiencing. Johnson had over 300 carries each of the 3 years prior to last year. Those carries took their toll on Johnson last year, and I am gambling that he still has something left in the tank. In my book on of the big issues the Bengal ’s had last year was the lack of a consistent running game, and that took its toll on the offense. I am looking for Johnson to get around 250 carries and top the 1200 yard mark.

4.08

John Georgopoulos
RB Thomas Jones

QB:  RB: Westbrook TJones WR: Wayne Colston TE:  PK:
I was pleasantly surprised to find T. Jones available in the fourth round. He is no great shakes, but I do project him to get 60-62% of the carries and yards for the Jets -- and he's running behind an improved line. Might be just enough to give me a functional running game in '08.

4.09

Jerome Hickerson
QB Carson Palmer

QB: Palmer RB: Addai Maroney WR: Edwards TE: PK:
I wanted Brandon Jacobs here but he was taken a few picks ahead of me. I decided to take my QB here because I saw several of the rest of the running backs as pretty equal and I also felt that the receivers were still deep at this point.

4.10

TC Cannon
WR Plaxico Burress

QB: Manning RB: Peterson  WR: Owens Burress  TE: PK:
I'll be brief... Anytime you have a chance at a100/1000/10 WR season, do it. There are several fine, fine WRs undrafted. Each of them seem a bit more risky than Burress.

Without solid rushing options available, it was fairly simple to select a very solid WR Burress. After two very positive seasons (and 22 scores), I am convinced that Burress is certainly a productive main target for the Giants and a happy addition to this roster.

4.11

Jim Butler (4.08 selection delayed)
QB Drew Bees

QB: Brees  RB: McGahee White  WR: TE: Gates  PK
Given the choices at QB, I felt that Drew would be my best bet to get consistent scoring. He's proven that he can perform at the elite level, but consistency is what I was looking for. He'll have so stellar games, but he doesn't tend to have very many poor games during the season. I feel very good at having him as an anchor for my team at QB.

4.12

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
WR Roy Williams

QB: RB: Tomlinson James Turner WR: RWilliams TE: PK:
We tried to trade up several times within the latter half of this round to get one of two players, both of whom went just a few picks in front of us (Brees, Burress). We also had hopes that one of a few top-end WRs would slip through for various reasons (Chad, Housh, Welker, S.Smith, Marshall), but none of them did.

For the remaining WRs, the best guys each have questions (and we were split on our opinions). Harrison is coming off an injury that cost him most of 2007 and has well-publicized legal issues, while Williams lost the OC that made him a star and could lose targets (especially in the red zone) to Calvin Johnson. Nonetheless, Roy Williams is the safer choice as the questions are not about him, but on the surrounding cast.
