Final Analysis

 6.01
Tony Holm
WR Santonio Holmes
QB: RB: Grant Parker McFadden JJones  WR: RMoss Holmes TE: PK:

I decided to look at position scarcity for this pick.  Looked at QBs and decided there may be some later that I can live with, the same goes with TE which brought me to WR.  For me I narrowed this down to Santonio Holmes or Greg Jennings and if Brett Favre were still the QB in Green Bay, Greg Jennings would have been the pick - no question.  Instead I went with a 3rd year WR in a system that has become more pass oriented, with the same QB and is poised to have a break out year.  He only had 52 catches in 2007 but went for 942 yards and 8 TDs, can you say explosive?   With an 80 reception season he projects out to 1,450 yards and 12 TDs.  Yes please!

6.02
Matt Pitzer (via trade)
QB Ben Roethlisberger

QB: Roethlisberger RB: Barber Bush WR CJohnson Holt TE: PK:

I almost took him with my last pick so I was happy to see him available here. A few other quarterbacks have gone off the board, but he is my highest-rated guy, especially coming off a career season. He should be plenty productive again as the Steelers appear to be becoming increasingly offensive minded.

6.03

Greg Kellogg
WR Lee Evans

QB: Romo RB: Portis RBrown Henry  WR: Marshal Evans TE: PK:
With a quarterback and three running backs in the fold, I felt it was time to turn my attention back to the wide receiver position.  Brandon Marshall gave me one clear number one receiver, Lee Evans gives me my second.

After a breakout 2006 season, Evans suffered from rookie QB blues in 2007.  Well Trent Edwards is no longer a rookie and I suspect Evans will return to the form he displayed the year prior.  In drafts already conducted this year, Evans is a mid-fifth round pick making him a slight value when looked at through the lenses of an Average Draft Ranking.

6.04

Duane Cahill
WR Greg Jennings

QB: Brady RB: LJohnson Graham WR: Boldin Bowe Jennings TE: PK
The question with Jennings is obviously:  What now sans Brett?

It's pretty apparent based on the fact that he's still available that nobody in this league thinks that he's going to reprise his 12-TD season of last year.  Fair enough.  With a first-year starter at QB, perhaps half of that is a reasonable expectation.  But I think what you'll likely see with Jennings is more receptions and yardage (53/920 last year) to make up for the touchdowns.  Green Bay is going to throw the ball because you can't build an offense around Ryan Grant.  A number 1 receiver on a throwing team by any stretch is a decent WR2A.

6.05
Ian Allan
RB Kevin Smith (R)

QB: RB: SJackson Forte KSmith WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker CJohnson TE: PK:

I’m not picking again until the 8th round. TC Cannon owns my 7th-round pick. So I figured I’d better add a third running back into the mix. Maybe Steven Jackson or Matt Mezzo-Forte gets hurt. Maybe Mezzo-Forte surprises me and isn’t even a starter at the beginning of the year. Kevin Smith is a similar type of player. I expect he’ll start on opening day or at least be part of a committee, and I believe he’ll lead his team in rushing yards and touchdowns. Smith does, however, give me more Detroit Lions than any other team, which is never a good sign.

6.06

Matt Pitzer (via trade)
QB Matt Hasselbeck

QB: Hasselbeck Roethlisberger RB: Barber Bush WR CJohnson Holt TE: PK:

I probably have drafted Hasselbeck more often in more leagues than any other player in recent years. I expect him to have a good season if he is healthy because the Seahawks have not exactly locked down their running game by adding Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett. They have improved their line and Hasselbeck has shown he can be productive when throwing frequently. Either he or Roethlisberger ought to have a good game almost every week.

6.07

Shannon O'Leary
WR Roddy White

QB: RB: Gore Lewis RJohnson WR: Fitzgerald White TE: Gonzalez  PK:
I had a hard time with this pick. I don’t really like Falcon receivers and they will have a new quarterback and a new running game. The running game should be solid and allow for the passing game to be better than it has been since before the Dog Fighter came to town. Roddy caught over 80 balls last year in an offense that was hurting for a steady QB, so he is capable.  White made the traditional jump in stats last year, his third. I see White putting up similar numbers as last year.

6.08

Jim Butler
TE Chris Cooley

QB: Brees Schaub  RB: McGahee White  WR: TE: Gates Cooley  PK
Most are thinking that I should be grabbing WRs at this point, but I am gambling that I can get a WR corps with potential later on in this draft. Cooley performed well last season and I think he is in position to do the same this season. Also, WR and TE are interchangeable. With that in mind, I see Gates as being my #1 WR while Cooley could end up being my #1 TE so to speak.

6.09

John Georgopoulos
RB DeAngelo Williams

QB:  RB: Westbrook TJones DWilliams WR: Wayne Colston Ward TE:  PK:
I had held out some hope that I would be able to pick up T. Jones' little brother, Julius, in this spot. With him gone, my plan shifted to the Panthers' backfield. With any luck, I can grab both Williams and Jonathan Stewart and hope for a repeat of the 2007 Minnesota situation.

6.10

Jerome Hickerson
WR Anthony Gonzalez

QB: Palmer RB: Addai Maroney WR: Edwards Harrison Gonzales TE: PK:
This might have been early for Gonzalez, but I wanted to have the two Indy receivers. Between Harrison and Gonzalez, this tandem should account for a dozen or more scores and 1500+ yards. In the FAD format, I don’t have to make weekly lineup decisions, so I should be able to benefit regardless of which receiver puts up the points for the week.

6.11

TC Cannon
WR Chris Chambers

QB: Manning RB: Peterson  WR: Owens Burress Chambers TE: PK:
RB Stewart was the preferred choice here. However, only Rito|Naz's RB-heavy roster is sandwiched between this and my next selection. Soo... we will now seek a quality non-RB in round six and claim RB Stewart afterwards.

Here we go again.. I like WR Chambers more than I should. He's my selection. Justifying why I feel that he is one of the NFL's ~best~` receivers would be difficult. With the Dolphins in his past, perhaps this is his second Pro Bowl season. My goal is claim up to six solid, medium quality players that are NFL starters and also have the opportunity to have All-Star months. Chambers qualifies and has the opportunity to be better than 'medium quality'.

6.12

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
QB Donovan McNabb

QB: McNabb RB: Tomlinson James Turner WR: RWilliams TE: Witten PK:
Finally, we catch a break with our targeted drafting! With several teams needing QBs right ahead of us, we were convinced that McNabb would not fall to us... but he did. McNabb was leading the world in fantasy points when he hurt his ACL in mid-2006, and despite being at less than full strength he still had a very solid season in 2007. We expect a full return to health and high-end scoring potential as he adds "running the ball" back into his repertoire. His PPG has always been top notch, but health concerns likely dropped him to us here. His supporting cast, coaching continuity and offensive system are all geared towards helping him put up monster fantasy numbers. FWIW, we have him rated ahead of 5-6 QBs already drafted.
