In
our opinion, there is far better value available at RB#4 than at
other positions of higher need for us. Taylor has been going in
the 6th-7th round in many drafts, usually as about the 30th-35th
RB taken; we get him to start the 9th round as the 40th RB
off the board. We get a guy with definite contributions
every week and the potential for explosive weekly numbers,
especially if/when Peterson misses time. Knowing TC is drafting
twice before we select again -- and that he is possibly
thinking of handcuffing him to Peterson -- we chose to make
the move now rather than wait until round 10.

There are many
reason to dislike Benson on my fantasy roster. First off and
most importantly, he was a four-year starter at the University
of Texas... The Bears drafted Benson as the fourth overall
selection in the 2005 draft... Benson struggled throughout the
2007 season but received enough support from his desperate coaches to retain his starting position until he sustained a
season-ending ankle in week 11 to complete his career high 648
yard rushing season... Longhorns, Bears, injuries, non-existent
performances,
the flat Bears offense. Yes sir. There's a lot to dislike about
Benson.
So why grab him, TC? RB depth is a real need for me. I am
hopeful that my good friend (roll eyes) Cedric can break out of
his three year old NFL slump and beat out a rookie (that I
never even heard of prior to March) and that he can have a
couple of 2 TDs days. If not the pick of the disappointing
Benson now, I would be praying equally hard for the Norwoods and
Alexanders and Bells who will be later drafted -- And, trust me,
they will be drafted soon.

There
were several TEs available that I
have rated as roughly even but I didn’t want to wait 19 picks;
that seemed risky to me because this is the point of the draft
where many owners start looking for a TE. Available TE pickings
late in the 10th round are likely to be pretty
slim. Shockey
should be solid and the primary receiving NYG TE as long as he
remains healthy. A half dozen scores and 65 receptions seems
reasonable to expect from Shockey
this season.

It
really was nervous with this pick, as I has Shockey targeted.
Right before Jerome's pick, I actually thought I had a chance to
get my favorite Giant. Alas, it was not to be... but I still
needed a TE in this spot. Crumpler figures to be Vince Young's
main target this season, which will likely be good for 50+
catches.

Like
Limas, rookie DeSean is going to a team that is desperately
seeking to find the right receivers for their system. DeSean
could prove to be a great add for the Eagles and Donovan could fondly
have a strong receiver to work with. I don't expect steady
performance out of Jackson, but I do think he will have some
games that are above the average of the league.

Selecting
Bell
is once again another gamble, but the running backs available
at this point in the draft are slim pickings. Tatum has a
decent yard per carry for his career and has had some big
games in
Denver
. One of the biggest downfalls of
Bell
is his ability to hang on to the ball.
Detroit
is supposed to be changing the offense to a more run oriented
type which will be good for
Bell
.
Bell
signed on for another year after Mike Martz left town. Also
Kevin Jones is gone, but the Lions did draft Kevin Smith in
the 3rd round, but I look for
Bell
to start off the year as the starter till he gets hurt, as he
can be a bit soft.

I don’t know why this young man
has not been selected yet. I just got off the phone with him,
and he’s not happy about it. He promises that he’s going to
remember the names of all 11 owners who passed on him in the
first nine rounds of the draft — says he’s going to play
extra hard in games against those teams this year. We’re
talking about a rugged, athletic 240-pounder who last year
averaged 239 FanEx yards per game. (FanEx yards = passing yards
+ rushing yards + rushing yards, to account for scoring system).
In the 14 games he started last year, he threw 21 TD passes. He
reminds me of a young Steve McNair; I think he might run for 4
TDs this season.

Chris Brown is a roll-the-dice
kind of pick here, but we're in the ninth round, so what
better time? I already have four backs on my roster, and
with my fifth wanted a potential home-run hitter.
There are many reasons to like
Brown. Can you really see Ahman Green going through the
entire season as the #1 back? He's older than Kellogg,
for God's sake. He's older than God, for Kellogg's sake!
Brown is familiar with the new zone blocking scheme that Alex
Gibbs is putting into place in Houston, and he's the one-cut
type of runner you need for that scheme. Darius Walker
shouldn't be much of a threat, and Chris Taylor has been
little more than practice squad fodder. Time now to
start filling those empty spaces on my roster.

I struggled with
this pick. I wanted another running back or wide receiver.
Norwood likely won't get a lot of opportunity with Michael
Turner in town now but Norwood has the capability to take any
one play 80 yards for a score. And if he gets in on third
downs I might just get three or four quality starts from him.
In a regular league I probably would not take Norwood - at least
not this high. But in a league that automatically takes
the highest scorer each week, having a streaky player as your
fifth anything is worth the risk.

Patrick
Crayton has some real positives working in his favor. He
has a top-notch QB in Tony Romo throwing
him the ball. He plays opposite T.O., so he never sees
double coverage. And don't forget the Cowboys were the #4
passing offense in the NFL *and* the #2 scoring offense in the
NFL. Heck, about the only thing working against Crayton is
that the 'Boys have soooo many weapons that you can't expect
more than 6-7 TDs to come Crayton's way.
Picking Crayton here gives us a solid #4 WR. We expect similar
number to last year when he grabbed 50 catches for 697 yards
with 7 TDs that helped bolster his fantasy value. (Note: Picking
a Cowboy makes our
two Eagle-hearts die just a little bit inside.)

I
am under no illusions about the Ravens' passing offense, but I
do see Clayton as being the No. 1 receiver, even coming off a

Baltimore
, which means featuring more of Clayton over Derrick Mason. I
won't count on many TDs, but I won't be surprised by 70 catches.

Looking
at the board, it smells like a run on backup QBs is about to
start and looking at the 2007 FAD, 29 QBs were drafted which on
a 2008 ADP list has Joe Flacco as the #29 QB. Ouch.
Time to load up with my #1 and #2 QB with these two picks and
get while there's something left on the tree. ADP says Phil
Rivers and Matt Leinart would be the selections here,
and Phil Rivers almost made the cut, but in the end I decided
you don't win the FAD by going pedestrian, go for the pure
upside and to me, Vince Young is that guy. Young struggled
last year without an offense around him but the additions of TE
Alge Crumpler, the presence of a pile of WRs like Justin
McCareins, Justin Gage, Roydell Williams, a pile of other WRs
that they drafted, any one of which could erupt, and the
addition of rookie RB Chris Johnson who catches
very well and is elusive in the open field, should all add
to some play makers for Vince Young to put together a solid
season. I'm buying low.
