Again, Phil
Rivers, Matt Leinart, heck even Jason Campbell beat out
Rodgers in an ADP rank but I don't pick again until pick 132,
by that time all these QBs should be gone along with Rodgers
and a few other ones, so throw ADP out the window, I
drafted the guy I'd be most upset to lose among the remaining
QBs. Rodgers is another with tremendous upside and a
supporting cast that will help him along. He's
talented, they run the same offense that he's learned and he's
learned the position from one of the best. When Rodgers
did play he played very well, sporting a QB rating of 106.0
having played in 2 games in 2007. I think the upside for
Rodgers is as big as anyones.

He
had a horrible rookie season so this definitely is a gamble. But
I saw a guy who averaged 5.5 yards a carry over three games
before the NFC championship. The Packers love to run and Ryan
Grant, while having a great half a season, is not exactly an
established NFL runner.
Jackson
will get some chances again and I'm willing to see how much of
that late-season improvement was real.

This is likely the
biggest risk I have taken thus far in this draft. Kurt
Warner clearly out-played Leinart last year but with these
receivers whomever starts at QB is likely to have a great year.
I have to think that somebody will be Leinart. With Romo
as my QB1 I can afford to take this chance.

While the old-timer ain't what he
used to be, he's certainly worth a flyer returning to the Mike
Martz offense in San Francisco that he was so proficient in
while with the Rams. While I'm not expecting his numbers
of old, I do expect that he'll start opposite Bryant Johnson
and wind up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 60/750/5.
The trick is spacing out the five TDs during weeks that I need
them.

Not
much mystery to this pick beyond taking the guy who was sixth
among tight ends in receptions last year. The Texans love to
throw to him and as long as Andre Johnson's knee problems
linger, Daniels will be a big part of the offense. I'll like
having him for those weeks when he catches 6 or 8 balls.

This was probably
our hardest pick of the draft so far. We have no 11th
rounder due to our trading up to get QB Derek Anderson earlier
in the draft, so almost anyone we would have considered at this
spot will be long gone by the time our next pick rolls around.
We settle on TE Todd Heap as a high-risk, high reward election
for us. Sure we could have drafted a couple safer options
at TE, but we already have Kellen Winslow, so why not gamble on
a guy like Todd Heap? Heap spent much of last season on the
injury list, and there is no guarantee he'll return at 100% this
season - but if he does, we get a top 5 TE in the mid-10th. We
also have a bargaining chip for possible trades with the 4 teams
who have yet to pick a TE this draft.

I
am looking for Jake to bounce back this year. So are the
Panthers. Delhomme
still has a very good receiving core. Also the running game will
have fresh legs this year. Delhomme and Bulger are my
quarterbacks. Both are coming off less than spectacular years
but have the potential to perform in the top 7 to 8. The tandem
should work well if the can stay healthy. Delhomme isn’t a
spring chicken but at 33 he’s not over the hill either.

If
not for his injury last season, I don't think I would be
finding him here at this position in the draft. Last time I took
part in the FAD, both of my QBs got injured. Rivers is a little
insurance policy with a huge upside.

Starting
to strain looking for any sort of quality RBs at this point.
Betts has always filled in admirably for Portis when given the
chance, and Jim Zorn may play him a little more even if Portis
is healthy. Also fits in nicely with the bye week situation of
my RB corps.

This
is a talented player drafted into a situation that will give him
a decent opportunity to shine in his rookie season. While Lendale
White is likely to receive the greater share of opportunities,
Johnson is going to be in the mix and has plenty of upside as
the season grinds on. I considered Selvin
Young at this point but opted for Johnson. While I rated them
evenly, my hunch says that the end of the day, Johnson earns
more chances than Young.

QB
Rivers was the target this round, and he was claimed by Butler
earlier today. Good catch, Jim.
Moving forward now... The quick agile RB Selvin Young had a fine 2007 debut with
the Broncos. He filled in for a semi-crippled Travis Henry and was
an 8 games starter. 750/1 rushing and 35/230/0 receiving were
his totals. He earned 140+ yards in the 1st half vs KC and
his numbers could really improve in 2008. Except that he is a former
Longhorn, I am happy to have him at the mid point of the draft.
(Hell, I might just take all the former Texas RBs - Williams,
Holmes, Charles are next!)

While
the switch from OC Mike Martz and his "bombs away"
offense to the more run-oriented Jim Colletto has obviously
scared off a lot of drafters from Jon Kitna, there is a lot to
like here. Other negatives include lost points for the
inevitable INTs and the pounding he (again) will take behind the
Lions' excuse for an O-line. But...he still has a poor team
around him which will force a fair amount of throwing as the
team plays from behind. There is still little threat of a
running game to detract touches and direct the playcalling.
There are still two all-world WRs on the outside, one of
which is on our roster already. There is still no viable
replacement for him waiting in the wings for 2008. In addition,
we can claim a date with the Texans' poor secondary on our
starter's bye week! And frankly, its hard not to root
for the guy <g>
