Final Analysis

 11.01
Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
WR Jabar Gaffney
QB: McNabb Kitna RB: Tomlinson James Turner CTaylor WR: RWilliams Mason Burleson Gaffney TE: Witten PK: DT:

Gaffney really came on as the season progressed in 2007, surpassing Donte Stallworth in both targets and production. Now with Stallworth gone he will be starting for the high-octane Patriots every week. He is a dependable and very effective target, actually posting team-high effectiveness numbers overall and in the red zone -- facts which explain his 5 TDs in somewhat limited action. It was also obvious in the postseason that he was a preferred target in the end zone for Tom Brady. Speaking of Brady...his presence under center helped to make Gaffney a more attractive draft choice than some other WR options available in this slot who suffer from inferior QB play.

11.02
TC Cannon
WR James Hardy (R)

QB: PManning RB: Peterson Stewart Benson Young  WR: Owens Burress Chambers Engram Hardy TE: Clark  PK:  DT:

Who do you think is the best remaining WR? The glad-to-leave-Oakland Porter or the I'm-not-aging Toomer may be the best. However, I believe that the most productive could be my selection, rookie James Hardy. He edges out Charger Vincent Jackson for this draft slot.

Hardy is one of the bigger receivers to enter the league in the past few years and his 6'6" frame should make him a very inviting target, allowing him to make an immediate contribution near the goal line. Hardy was a high-scoring wideout at NCAA Indiana and there's little reason to think that will change. He's no Troy Williamson. I promise that.

11.03

Jerome Hickerson
QB Jason Campbell

QB: Palmer Campbell  RB: Addai Maroney  Taylor CJohnson WR: Edwards Harrison Gonzales RBrown TE: Shockey PK:  DT:

This pick felt forced upon me. I was desperate to grab a second QB and I see a pretty large drop off on my list after Campbell . I can’t say that this selection thrilled me; Campbell has the right players to receive his passes but does he have inside himself the tools to get the job done? He needs to learn a new system, stay healthy, and work together with his receivers while avoiding sacks and reducing fumbles. A lot to expect, but he was the best that I saw available at the time.

11.04

John Georgopoulos
QB Trent Edwards

QB: EManning Edwards  RB: Westbrook TJones DWilliams Betts WR: Wayne Colston Ward Branch TE: PK:  DT:
From what I saw of Edwards last season, he seemed like an up-and-coming QB talent. There's always the chance that Losman will win back the starting job, but I doubt it. Besides, I only need him to play well in Week 4.

11.05
Jim Butler
WR Terry Glenn

QB: Brees Schaub Rivers  RB: McGahee White  WR: Galloway Sweed DJackson Glenn TE: Gates Cooley  PK:  DT:

Health-wise Glenn appears to have fully recovered from his 2007 injury woes. Now if only the Cowboys will let him play ball. I think that all of this current stuff will work itself out and Glenn will be on the field and scoring points. If he returns to his 2006 form, I think he'll have a chance to be a constant, not stellar, but constant point scorer

11.06

Shannon O'Leary
WR Jerry Porter

QB: Bulger Delhomme RB: Gore Lewis RJohnson Bell WR: Fitzgerald White Walker Porter TE: Gonzalez  PK:  DT:

Porter is a big receiver and has the opportunity to be a number one receiver with the Jaguars. The Jaguars revamped their receiving core this year, and I think the trip out of Oakland has to be good for Porter. There are some concerns about Porters' hammies, but it’s early and hopefully Porter can get them back in shape. This is a pick I might have taken back if given the chance as Porter got hurt the day after I picked him. I would keep an eye on him, but will move him further down my draft list for my other drafts

11.07

Ian Allan (via trade)
RB Ahmad Bradshaw

QB: Cutler Garrard  RB: SJackson Forte KSmith Bradshaw WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker CJohnson TE: PK:  DT:
This FanEx contest can be a battle of attrition. Halfway through the season, there will be some teams that can’t even field full starting lineups. So I wanted to bolster myself at running back. Bradshaw does that. He’s not only the backup running back for the Giants, he’s only going to play every week as a change-of-pace guy. He was very good in the playoffs last year, actually outrushing Brandon Jacobs and getting almost as many carries. I also expect him to become the team’s third-down back, which is important in this scoring format. Bradshaw caught a lot of passes at Marshall.

11.08

Ian Allan
TE Vernon Davis

QB: Cutler Garrard  RB: SJackson Forte KSmith Bradshaw WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker CJohnson TE: Davis PK:  DT:
I don¹t really like TE Davis, but we¹re nearing the end of the 11th round and I don¹t have a tight end. And he¹s the highest-ranked player on my board at that position. He¹s certainly fast. Maybe he catches 50 passes and 4 TDs - at least I hope so.

11.09

Duane Cahill
WR Donte' Stallworth

QB: Brady RB: LJohnson Graham Mendenhall McAllister CBrown  WR: Boldin Bowe Jennings Bruce Stallworth TE: PK:  DT:
Man, I really try to avoid "in this format" picks, because I think they diminish the value of our draft versus what you may be doing when it's time for you to pick.  However, Stallworth is exactly an "in this format" pick.  He's with a pass-happy Browns team, and while he'll be the #2 receiver behind Braylon Edwards, he'll be more the #3 option behind Kellen Winslow.  At least we know that Jamal Lewis won't be taking away his catches.

In Stallworth, I add another "quantity over quality" receiver to my corps, as I'm not sure that I have anyone that is going to dazzle week in and week out.  However, I have enough guys that will peak at various times that I should be in good shape FanEx FAD-wise.

11.10

Greg Kellogg
WR Drew Carter

QB: Romo Leinart  RB: Portis RBrown Henry FJones Norwood  WR: Marshal Evans Driver DCarter TE: PK:  DT:
Word out of Oakland is that WR Drew Carter has been wowing the coaches and when you are picking this late you grasp at straws.  No one knows who will be the Raiders top receiver - all we know for certain is that someone will catch the passes.  This is my first real reach of the draft but there will be more later.

11.11

Matt Pitzer
TE Ben Watson

QB: Hasselbeck Roethlisberger  RB: Barber Bush BJackson  WR CJohnson Holt Curtis Clayton TE: Watson  PK:  DT:
Everybody wants a piece of the New England offense, right? Here's mine in Ben Watson. He had five TDs in the first five weeks last year before things fell apart. So he at least has the potential to make an impact at tight end. If he has another one of those five- or six-week dominant stretches, he can be valuable. I'm not asking for anything more.

11.12

Tony Holm
RB Justin Fargas

QB: Young  Rodgers RB: Grant Parker McFadden JJones Fargas  WR: RMoss Holmes Cotchery Berrian TE: PK:  DT:
Obviously the Raiders selection of Darren McFadden in this years draft pushes Fargas down the draft list but it is hard to argue the success Fargas had running the ball last season.  In the second half of 2007, Fargas had 164 attempts for 676 yards, 4 TDs and caught the ball 15 times for 110 yards ending up being the 13th best fantasy back tied with Marion Barber over the second half.  Fargas also rushed for over 100 yards 3 times in that same span.  That's some strong running as the Raiders were one of the top running teams in the league last year.  Since I have Darren McFadden already, this pick seems to make sense for me to help diminish the down side of McFadden in 2008 and protects my investment in McFadden.
