I
hemmed and hawed with this pick. I looked at TE, another
RB, WR and the remaining QBs. As I was the last FAD team
to draft my #1 QB, I had decided that I would be trotting out 3
QBs already and there's not much left that I feel are valuable
picks so eventually pulled the trigger on Jackson.
JaMarcus Russell was also a consideration here. Ultimately
I like that Jackson is in his third year with the Vikings
and has experience in 2007 having played in 12 games. He
has shown signs of progress and the Vikings have added a few
more receivers like Bernard Berrian and it doesn't hurt that
defenses will be focused on Adrian Peterson and not Tarvaris
Jackson. Jackson has looked sharp in training camp and his
new familiarity with the offense has shown as he's making much
quicker reads and is throwing the ball with confidence. He
should post some decent numbers given the offense that he is
running and I hope my three headed QB machine will be scoring
some good base points for me all season long.

Just
adding more depth at running back with a guy who could emerge as
a starter even though Dunn really returned to
Tampa
Bay
only to wrap up his career. He has been very durable late in his
career and the Bucs could use a regular presence at running
back. He also is a good receiver and if that leads to a few nice
games, I'll take that production.

It was always my
intent to have three quarterbacks but I had hoped that Tarvaris
Jackson would fall to me. Since that was the case I was
left with a decision between a quarterback that is unhappy with
his contract, Jeff Garcia, and one that might lose his job, Alex
Smith. I opted for Smith because I believe he will
continue to be the starter in San Francisco and if Mike Martz
can turn Jon Kitna into a fantasy stud, it is likely he will do
the same with Smith.

Look
no further than our first round to get a sense of how essential
the RB position is in this league.
I've had the opportunity to see Ricky a couple of times this
off-season and it certainly appears that his issues are behind
him. He has a clear cut plan to play 2-3 more seasons and
then get out and move on with his life. While I don't
believe he has a burning desire to play football, he understands
that the game is the gateway to the next phase of his life.
And that may well be enough motivation. He's an
interesting cat.
It looks like he's going to wind up splitting touches with
Ronnie Brown, and while my roster looks to have several backs in
these tandems, I fully expect my quantity to hide the blemish of
not carrying two bona fide studs.

I have four wide receivers I really like — Andre Johnson,
Steve Smith, Wes Welker and Calvin Johnson — but all of those
guys are going to have byes and multiple weeks with poor stats,
so there’s certainly room for another wide receiver. I’ve
opted to go light at the running back position, so I’ll be
playing four wide receivers virtually every week. Bryant
Johnson, I think, might be pretty good. I think he’ll be the
top pass catcher in San Francisco, and I expect the 49ers to
throw the ball a lot this season (with Mike Martz taking over as
their offensive coordinator).

We can honestly say
that WR was the position we were LEAST looking at with this
selection. In this case, we simply thought the RB talent
too thin to pass up a value pick like Hackett at this
spot.
Hackett was given assurances by the Panthers that he'll be the
#2 WR on the squad this year, and any WR opposite Steve Smith
isn't going to see much double coverage - we like the sound of
that. Toss in the fact that Hackett is the tall possession
receiver in contrast to the smaller, faster Smith and we think
Hackett will get a few looks in the redzone. Injured last
year, he still managed 6 TDs in the 6 games he played in - a
scoring trend we'd love to see continue into 2008. Even
with Hackett's injury history, he simply had too much upside for
us to ignore this late in the draft.

Foster
is a capable runner who, like a lot of running backs in the NFL,
has a problem staying healthy. As I said in the 1st round, I
would look at Foster later in the draft. I have handcuffed him
and Gore. Gore has a long list of injuries himself, so having
Foster was an insurance pick. Foster’s yard’s per carry were
down last year, but that could be attributed to the lack of a
solid QB for the Panthers last year.
Of course that could be a concern in San Fran this year.
Ultimately I am hoping Gore takes care of business and I don’t
need points from Foster. This is Foster’s 6th year in the
league, so he should have something in the tank, and is an
upgrade over last years back ups.

With
Seattle retooling their entire backfield in the off season, I
just don't see Julius Jones being the goal line back there. This
bodes well for Duckett. I don't see a lot of yards coming from
T.J. but TDs should be a plenty. One of the weaker areas of the
Seahawks last season was running the ball inside the 10 yard
line and I think T.J. was brought in to fix that.

This

he can put up very solid, if unspectacular, numbers playing
opposite Marshall.

I’m
not a fan of taking a bunch of rookies, but I grabbed my second
rookie RB here because I see this guy as an interesting talent
backing up a guy who does get injured and misses time. While I
believe Rice has value from the start as a 3rd down back, I also
think he has a decent shot at significant playing time behind McGahee.
Evaluating rookies comes down to opportunity and talent and I
see this guy as having some of both.

Rather
than claiming a positive alternative TE2, I decided to continue
my dependence on TE Clark and claim the most
popular DT -- the Chargers. In 2007, they were the most productive
in this scoring format. Yet, even then, the difference between
SD and others was minor - a few points each week.
The thought is to have two of the better DTs, taking advantage of the
best-ball format.

We
are at the point where some folks might be taking backup TEs,
and there are a couple left on the board that are in our top 10
(even though 12 TEs have been drafted). Smith is finally healthy
and is in a contract year, so we hope those two factors make him
a solid backup for Witten and a potential flex player some weeks
when our WRs are not up to snuff. McNabb has shown a fondness
for Smith when they have been on the field...an unfortunate
rarity in the last few years. Strong consideration was also
being given to several players drafted just ahead (Williams,
Johnson, SD) or behind (Rice, Garcia) these selections of ours.
