I
did consider a few players here like Shaun Alexander, a couple
of wideouts, the Vikings D and a couple of TEs.
In the end I narrowed it down to the Vikings D or one of the two
TEs and ultimately, deciding I can still do just as
well in Team Defense with quantity (in this format - Hi Duane!),
went for the TE. Another factor was that Rito
declared a run on D with his Team D selection and I
felt compelled not to prove him right, that and he rarely
drafts his way out of a cardboard box and the fact that he took
one was a red flag to stay away from the position. A lot
of TEs potentially are left to be drafted according to the
rosters to date and they thin out ultra quick, so since I'm
one of those teams without one, I decided to get
"something" before the well ran dry.

He
has put together two solid seasons and might be the Raiders' No.
1 receiver, for whatever that is worth. That offense will be
pretty inconsistent, but if I can get 50 or 60 catches, that's
fine for this spot in the draft. I'm just hoping he will have a
nice game when I need him on bye weeks or whatever

The three years
prior to last season, McMichael averaged 65 receptions for 671
yards and 4 TDs. His numbers suffered greatly last season,
in large part because of the ineffectiveness of the entire Rams
passing game. The offensive line was a mess and three
different quarterbacks got starts, including, gulp, Brock
Berlin. Hopefully Marc Bulger can stay upright and healthy
this year so McMichael can return to being the TE we all know
and love.

This
is the symbol of a streaky WR if I ever saw one. That's fine
with me in this scoring format. There are games where you
would think he never got on the field and then others you
wonder where he's been hiding at. I am hoping to get a couple
of strong games out of him, but not expecting much more than
that. Maybe 4-500 yards and 4-6 TDs.

I
considered trying to sneak him through another round, but I feel
wide receivers are very important in this league. I’ll be
using four of them every week. I’ve got four I really like,
then I’ve got Bryant Johnson — not sure what he’ll do. All
of those guys are going to have byes and multiple poor games.
And maybe one of them gets hurt. So I felt strongly about adding
a sixth set of hands. Last year, I waited until the end of the
draft to complete my team at wide receiver and wound up
selecting Tab Perry, whom I think caught like 2 passes all year.
Wilford, I believe, will lead Miami in receptions. Ted Ginn will
make more big plays, but Wilford will work the middle of the
field. I think he’s got a chance to catch 65 balls.

The time for glamour
picks is long gone. And hand-cuffing your #1 RB (and your
#1 pick overall) is never a bad idea. So while we still
like a few players who we think have high risk/reward factors
and are still available, we opt for an insurance policy instead.
Fred Jackson didn't get to see a lot of playing time behind a RB
stud like Marshawn Lynch, but when he did, he produced. He
averaged a very nice 5.2 ypc filling in for Lynch, and even
caught 22 passes in his 8 appearances last year. In the
only two games where he had a major role, his stats were even
better: 31 carries for 197 yards (that's 6.35 a carry!) with 5 receptions
for 75 yards. In our minds, hand-cuffing Lynch at this point
made the most sense, and the fact that he has such a capable
backup in Jackson only solidified that thinking. We hope
we never see Jackson starting for us this year... but if we do,
we expect solid fantasy numbers.

See
the Bears analysis… Year after year this is a tough defense.
Last year they certainly didn’t perform as well as usual and
that is why I took the Bears over the Steelers. Taking back to
back defenses happened since the Steelers were on the board
still, as I considered them when I took
Chicago
. Also having two solid defenses in this format increases your
chance at more points if they have big days opposite of each
other. One other factor in selecting the Steelers was the hopes
it would help fuel a run on defenses and leave some of the other
players I needed on the board for my next pick.

this season and Adam should be doing the same.

There
was only one RB still remaining on the board that we really
liked, so we moved up a few slots to get him. We felt that TC
needed another RB, and Hickerson might be looking to protect his
high-round investment in Maroney, so we had to jump ahead of
them. He is sure to get looks in the red zone still, and
"should get 10-12 carries a game as a bruising, change of
pace back" (according to the Boston papers) for the
league's most potent offense. Maroney also has yet to show he
can stay healthy while carrying the bulk of the load, and Morris
has already shown that he can put up great numbers when starting
in Miami and New England. Morris is a nice value here this
late - don't fall asleep on this guy later in your drafts as a
RB#4 or #5!

This
is a very good NFL defensive unit and should translate into
being a good fantasy defense, but it isn’t always the case
that good NFL defenses are good fantasy defenses. But I see good
production of sacks and INTS and if Pac Man plays, the defense
is even better.

My
intention was to add a Cowboy here, either a DT or PK - or
maybe both. The prior DT Cowboys selection thinned out my
options. and make this Folk addition my renewed preference.
Often it's tough to project a super kicker. A strong PK
who gets hot behind an 'average' offense can sometimes really prosper.
Think Bironas, . What's a FF owner to do?
And, why Folk? Two reasons. 1) Strong offenses often reward their PK
with many opportunities. Last year's 131 points came off the
rookie foot of Folk. 2) The semi-local
Cowboys are fun to follow. It's always desired to have some FF
interest connected with the team. Pairing WR Owens with DT would have been ideal
(Thanks for nothing friend Jerome), but adding a sharp PK is fine at
this stage of the draft.

Nice
value pick here, in my opinion. Bennett is slated to be the #2

successful offense in the 14th round is a bargain.
