The
#3 and #4 WRs in New Orleans were drafted in the early 14th
(Henderson) and late 15th (Meachem) rounds - but the starter has
yet to be drafted here in round 17. Strange. All Patten
does is produce while starting for a high-octane Saints' passing
attack. He scored 10 PPG in this format last year, and 16 PPG in
the last four games...did he have a revival or a career year
blip? We shall see. He will get at least one start with a tasty
matchup vs. SF in week 4, when the rest of our WRs are on the
bye.

Fooled
you! My FanEx friends thought that I was going to attempt to
relive the past by adding RB Shaun Alexander here. No. No. No. I
will not go down that 'I-used-to-be-somebody!'
Rice/ESmith/Warner/Moulds road, as I often have before... at least not today.
The Bears are a pitiful scoring team - an antique of themselves.
Besides Superman Hester, there are no positive FF options.. other than
the sometimes golden Gould. They can't run. They certainly can't
pass. Yet, much of the time, they can
kick very well. The NFL average is less than 30 FGA per season. The seldom
proud Bears average 36 attempts, which benefits a solid PK like
Gould. With three PKs, this roster is near certain to have
positive results every week from that position. I like this choice better than an
aged Alexander or Muhammad selection.

Grabbing
my second kicker, I take the guy who led the league in FGs
last year. Kickers are a crapshoot, always, but using my 16th
and 17th round picks did not seem expensive to me when I looked
around and saw what other position players were remaining. Bironas
is a consistent guy on a team that should provide enough
opportunities for him to produce good fantasy numbers.
Consistency is important to me because in FAD, if a guy gets
replaced, you’re really hurt because you can’t make a move
to replace him.

Mark Bradley is
listed as the second receiver on most depth charts. At this
point in the draft I was looking for a receiver that could come
out of the wood work and surprise everyone. Each year someone
makes a splash, and my choice for this year's splash is Bradley.
Once again it a bit of a gamble, but this will be Bradley’s
fourth year. He’s one year behind the typical receiver curve,
but will have the opportunity this season. The big concern will
be who throws the ball to him, but Bradley is a lanky receiver
who had a positive college career.

What
do you want? Hunh? I mean seriously, what do you want from
us? Obviously, our eggs are in the Browns QB basket. If both
Anderson and Quinn get hurt, we're hurting badly.
Grossman is the best of a thin herd; but when we draft a QB
high, we don't make our 3rd QB a very high priority. Grossman
has a different bye than Cleveland, and he has less QB
controversy around him than Pennington/Clemens. I know Orton is
getting some press, but while Grossman is wildly inconsistent
and sometimes blows - Orton consistently blows.
I don't know why the Bears didn't draft a QB, but they didn't -
and really - we're screwed if we need Grossman for anything
more than one week.

Defenses
in this league are always a lot about luck so my strategy is to
grab two defenses that will have some productive games and hope
that at least one is good most weeks. The Colts always are
active playmakers and have those occasional big games with a
bunch of turnovers and a TD or two.

Some FanEx owners will take only 1
TE, 1 K or 1 DT, preferring to beef up other positions.
My strategy in a no-transaction league is that I absolutely
MUST have a backup at every single position. Even the
best TE or K in the league will have an off day, and the
backup needs to be there to provide some points when it
happens. Additionally, it's completely unacceptable to
me to see a zero at a position because of a bye week.
With as close as these owners tend to score at the end of the
year, every point counts. A TE2, K2 or DT2 is far more
valuable than a RB7 or a WR7.

Picking
a defense or a kicker just isn't the most exciting thing anyone
can do -- one reason I have tried to transition into IDP
leagues. Much more interesting. But I love what the
Browns have done to retool their defense. I think Shaun
Rogers is going to have a huge impact on this team. The
loss of Leigh Bodden worries me a bit but average corners become
great when there is a good pass rush and Cleveland should have
that in spades this season.

Like
the Colts, the Titans' defense always seems to play above its
head. They have a bunch of young guys we haven't heard much
about, but they also have playmakers at each level of the
defense. And with a great defensive coaching staff, they're in
position to put up some good fantasy points fairly often.
They're not an every-week start, yet have the potential for a
few big games.

Brown
has a ton of leg hitting a 57 yarder last year and hit 3 field
goals over 50 yards in one game. He was one of the best
fantasy kickers going when the Texans were hot and still ended
up as the second best fantasy kicker according to the way CBS
ranks the position. There's no reason to expect anything
less than top notch numbers from Brown this season.
