Final Analysis

 20.01
Tony Holm
DT Bills
QB: Young  Rodgers Jackson  RB: Grant Parker McFadden JJones Fargas

WR: RMoss Holmes Cotchery Berrian VJackson Gage TE: Lee Miller
PK: KBrown Scobee
DT: Jets Bills

Let's see.  They get to play the Dolphins and Jets twice, throw in the 49'ers, Chiefs and Raiders for good luck and the Bills D will also have their share of good days.  Add that to the fact that the Jets (who I just drafted before this pick) are guaranteed to never be playing the same soft opponent simultaneously as the Bills, that spreads out my opportunities against weaker offenses in the league even more.

The Bills selected Leodis McKelvin, the best cover corner in the draft, with their 11th selection overall, added three time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud from the Jaguars and added to LB with Kawika Mitchell, a big part of the Superbowl champ Giants defense.  In addition, the Bills were the 6th best fantasy D over the last 6 weeks of the 2007 season already.  It will take a few games for this unit to come together but they've managed to patch a lot of holes in a very short time.

20.02
Ian Allan (via trade)
RB Pierre Thomas

QB: Cutler Garrard  RB: SJackson Forte KSmith Bradshaw Thomas
WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker CJohnson BrJohnson Wilford
TE: Davis Miller Olsen
PK: Kaeding
DT: Seahawks Cardinals

I believe that Thomas, not Deuce McAllister, is going to be the back that shares time this year with Reggie Bush. As an older guy who’s blown out ACLs twice in the last four years, McAllister doesn’t seem to have it anymore. He was ineffective last year even prior to his injury. Thomas is younger, faster and better. In his only start last year, he went over 100 yards both rushing and receiving. And he was good enough at Illinois to keep Rashard Mendenhall on the bench. I consider Thomas to be a legit #4 running back in this league, and we’re excited to select him with a 20th-round choice.

20.03

Greg Kellogg
PK John Kasey

QB: Romo Leinart ASmith  RB: Portis RBrown Henry FJones Norwood
WR:
Marshal Evans Driver DCarter Meachem Ginn TE: Scheffler McMichael
PK: Hanson Kasey  DT: Browns Lions

I really hated taking two fogies as my kickers (Hanson will be 38 in June and Kasay will be 39 in September).  But there is something to be said for kickers that perform in Domes or Southern climates.  And I have two guys that are very accurate and still have some leg left.

20.04

Duane Cahill
DT Raiders

QB: Brady Russell RB: LJohnson Graham Mendenhall McAllister CBrown RWilliams
WR: Boldin Bowe Jennings Bruce Stallworth RWilliams
TE: DeClark Lewis
PK: Reed Longwell
DT: Raiders
The Raiders D is still available?  File this one under the "I don't get it" category.  Sure, the Raiders defense gives up more ground yardage than the French Army, but they've added ballhawk Gibril Wilson to a defense that already features sack artist Derrick Burgess.  DC Rob Ryan has created his own defensive legacy with the Raiders, Patriots, Cardinals and even Oklahoma State.  Look for the team to bounce back in the categories that score for FanEx.  This pick is a great reason to wait until the last round to get your defense.  I hereby guarantee that they finish in the top 10 or better in points.  And even if they don't, I'm not only getting their team defense, I'm drafting Ryan's hair.

20.05
Ian Allan
RB Chris Perry

QB: Cutler Garrard  RB: SJackson Forte KSmith Bradshaw
WR: AJohnson SSmith Welker CJohnson BrJohnson Wilford
TE: Davis Miller Olsen
PK: Kaeding
DT: Seahawks Cardinals

There’s some karma with this pick. In last year’s FAD competition, my final pick was a Perry from Cincinnati (Tab Perry), and we went on to win the league easily. So we’ll go the same route again. This time, it’s Chris Perry, the former first-rounder who’s missed 42 of 64 games as a pro. But he’s supposedly healthy now, and they couldn’t stop raving about him at their recent minicamp. Sounds like he’s going to be their third-down back, catching about 50 passes. They seem to like him a lot more than journeyman Kenny Watson, even though Watson played well last year. And Rudi Johnson could be right at the end of the road; he averaged only 2.9 yards per carry last year — I’m not 100 percent certain Johnson’s even going to be on the opening day roster. My hunch is that at some point, Perry will be Cincinnati’s starting running back this year.

20.06

Chris Dolfi | Tom Walls
PK Jason Elam

QB: Anderson Quinn Grossman  RB: Lynch Jones-Drew Jacobs MBush FJackson KoSmith
WR: Housh Coles Hackett RWilliams
TE: Winslow Heap
PK: Suisham Elam
DT: Giants:

For our backup kicker we grab Jason Elam.  But we don't grab him just because he's Jason Elam, since
Jason Elam won't be Jason Elam-like playing for a struggling franchise like Atlanta.  We grab him because our first choice of a backup (Tampa Bay's Matt Bryant) had the same bye week as our #1 kicker, and because the next 5-6 kickers we liked better than Elam this year were already off the board.  That left us picking between Elam and the Jets' Mike Nugent.  We pick Elam over Nugent for 2 reasons: #1 - no way, no how is Atlanta going to switch kickers mid-season no matter how bad things are after signing Elam (we couldn't say the same about the Jets) #2 - more than 50% of Jason Elam's games will be in a climate controlled dome.

[Author's Note: If you are reading this player analysis you are either a fantasy football junkie, desperate for your own draft to start, or Jason Elam's mother. Enjoy.)

20.07

Shannon O'Leary
TE Alex Smith

QB: Bulger Delhomme RB: Gore Lewis RJohnson Bell Foster Pittman
WR: Fitzgerald White Walker Porter Bradley Booker
TE: Gonzalez ASmith
PK: Crosby Rackers  DT: Bears Steelers
I didn’t want to ride the whole season with Gonzales as my only tight end, but realistically I only see Smith being my bye week tight end. I guess he might outscore Booker and Bradley 2-3 weeks, so he may provide some positive points, but wouldn’t consider drafting Smith for any other reason.

20.08

Duane Cahill (via Trade)
DT Broncos

QB: Brady Russell RB: LJohnson Graham Mendenhall McAllister CBrown RWilliams
WR: Boldin Bowe Jennings Bruce Stallworth RWilliams
TE: DeClark Lewis
PK: Reed Longwell
DT: Raiders Broncos
As promised, I created a roster where every position is being backed up.  While the Broncos defense wasn't on my wish list going into the draft, it was the best left on the board that didn't share a bye week with the Raiders D.  Sadly, my projections have them finishing in the lower half of the team defenses, but with almost two dozen DTs gone, you take what you can get and smile..

20.09

John Georgopoulos
PK Jay Feeley

QB: EManning Edwards  RB: Westbrook TJones DWilliams Betts CWilliams Bennett Washington
WR: Wayne Colston Ward Branch DJackson Toomer TE: Crumpler King
PK: Stover Feeley
  DT: Ravens

===================================================================================

20.10

Jerome Hickerson
TE Eric Johnson

QB: Palmer Campbell Pennington RB: Addai Maroney Taylor CJohnson Rice Rhodes
WR: Edwards Harrison Gonzales RBrown Rice TE: Shockey Eric Johnson
PK: JBrown Bironas
  DT: Cowboys Vikings
This guy has had some decent fantasy production in the past but he has certainly seen the best come and go. He is a huge injury risk but all the other TEs available looked no better. I may have waited too long to take my second TE, but Johnson seems to have a few games left in him where he can produce some good numbers. He may approach 50 receptions this season and crack my starting lineup a few times.
===================================================================================

20.11

TC Cannon
QB Jim Sorgi

QB: Manning Garcia Sorgi  RB: Peterson Stewart Benson Young Watson

WR: Owens Burress Chambers Engram Hardy TE: Clark Utecht
PK: Folk Gostkowski Gould
  DT: Chargers Packers
There are a few 'okay' bench players remaining. Some could contribute on a monthly basis. Prior to selecting QB Sorgi, I also considered WR Muhammad, RB Faulk, DT Redskins, and a few rookie receivers. Yet, none of them could rescue this team as Sorgi can, if I somehow lost Manning to injury.

20.12

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
PK Sebastian Janikowski

QB: McNabb Kitna Coyle RB: Tomlinson James Turner CTaylor
WR: RWilliams Mason Burleson Gaffney Walter Patten
TE: Witten LJSmith
PK: Akers Janikowski
DT: Patriots Buccaneers
Ahh...Mr. Irrelevant. Can anything in life be more irrelevant than a backup FFL kicker? In a league with roster changes available, we normally would not select a backup K or D, and thus our last two picks would be very different. But....we need a kicker and Sea Bass was the most intriguing of the remaining lot. Bonuses for longer FGs and occasional bursts of scoring make him an ideal matchup to a solid and predictable starter in a "best ball" scoring system. Mare SEA and Gramatica NO are with better offenses and were considered...but their erratic performance could get them replaced more so than Janikowski. Thus endeth the FAD - so let it be written, so let it be done.
