I
knew I wanted a #6 RB here, so I considered rookie RB Joe
McKnight, RB Kevin Smith (torn ACL), RB Arian Foster, and RB
Kevin Faulk. No one thrilled me, so I turned to free agent RB
Brian Westbrook. He’s likely to sign soon, perhaps St. Louis
or Washington. He’s a good pass-catcher, so perhaps he’ll
find himself in a situation where he could produce a few nice
games here or there. We shall see!

I needed a second
place kicker who will be on the field each week. Succop
was a top 10 PK over the last four weeks which shows he can kick
in inclement weather. Besides, with a name like Succop how
could I not take him?

Once
again, this was my plan all along: Insurance for my first QB,
Eli Manning. Obviously, you always hope your first string QBs
stay healthy and play. But in FAD, where rosters are frozen, you
have to at least try to stay in the game by drafting some
insurance players. Sorgi is my
insurance.

Best case scenario came rolling in
for me. The Cardinals were my backup plan but the Texans
stayed on the board for me after I gambled in the previous
round by taking my #2 favorite D (of what remained) with the
theory that my #1 (of what remained), the Texans, would
actually last longer than my #2 in this draft. That one
worked out for me. Hey, it's the small victories!

Our last two skill players are Texans. Players from an explosive
offense. We have to ask; what exactly did Arian Foster do wrong
to get such little love from the fantasy community? Of course,
we know the real answer, it has nothing to do with Foster, it's
the RBs around him. He has a lot of competition, but we're not
afraid of the competition.
Foster should be the starting RB for the Texans, Steve Slaton ,
rookie Ben Tate and possibly Ryan Moats in season for carries.
We think that three RBs will get the ball each game for the
Texans, and at worst - Foster should be second in yards for the
Texans. Foster is good for at least 750 yards combined
rushing/receiving.

Each of the past
several season, I've added a PK3 for increased depth. This year
will be different because I see a few could-be-outstanding WRs
that could better my roster. WR Bennett looked like a common
hot/cold, on/off rookie last year. He was second among the
Bears’ wide receivers in catches and yards last season, but he
failed to put up good numbers on a consistent basis. Yet, he may be an important
fantasy player as a more polished Cutler
target. He is good enough to be a professional receiver with
starter consideration.
Now, we get to see if he is smart enough to be a 'Martz' receiver
for these new-look Bears.

I almost added another receiver or running back, but decided not
to head into the season with a sure zero score out of any slot
for even one week (Week 10 Bye for Crosby). I may rue that
decision eventually, but for now, the improvements on the
offensive line and the second year of Michael Crabtree’s run
in SF have me excited about the prospects for the offense.
Nedney has alternated 17 and 29-make seasons in the past four
years. I’ll take a stat line somewhere in-between and a couple
weeks where he out-kicks Crosby.

Normally I would not take a 2nd
defense. And in a best ball format, one could make the argument
that I might have been better off taking a flyer on a WR#7 or
RB#7 (or a third QB, which I normally would do) with the
potential for a big week or an enhanced role on his team. In my
case, with a relative weakness at WR, I was particularly tempted
to take a Michael Jenkins, Josh Cribbs, Louis Murphy, Donte'
Stallworth or maybe even Darius Heyward-Bey. In the end, I
thought it best to give me two cracks at getting a good
defensive score in my lineup each week. I chose the Cardinals as
they have the bulk of the pieces back from a unit that scored in
the top 10 the last few seasons and still has some playmakers on
it. While I might not expect a top 10 this year, I will be
shocked if they do not significantly outperform their draft
position as the 23rd defense taken.

Well hell... I've been taking chances this entire draft, why not
continue down that road? Let's face it... An accurate
kicker (82% career average) in the last round - tough to come
by. But with Vinatieri's injuries, he may be a forgotten
man in your draft. If that's the case, grab him.
His opportunities in the Colts' offense are reason enough.
In the final round, he's a steal.

Since Ryan Succop can not be drafted
twice and Nick Folk is not promised the Jet's job, I had to
think fairly hard before adding the last player to the roster.
In the up/down world of FG kickers, the semi-important PK2 will
normally have more FAD 'starts' than other positions. Bryant's
best quality is that he is the established Falcon leg. I wish
him well.

Just one pick removed from 'Mr. Irrelevant', we finally select
the second of our two kickers, Nick Folk. We have had
great success in pairing kickers from the same team as our #1
defense (in this case, our ONLY defense) in the past, and we
continue the trend in 2010. Folk had a rough year with
some blown Dallas kicks in 2009, but in 2010 he's with a new
team and ready to shine.
The Jets offense has improved by adding some play-making ability
at WR and LT as a RB, which should mean Folk gets near the goal
line plenty often enough to split the uprights. But maybe
more importantly, we *LOVE* kickers who play on the same team as
great defenses. With the turnovers the Jets D is likely to
generate this year, that's even more opportunities for Folk to
find the scoreboard. We have been seeing Folk ranked lower
than 24 almost everywhere we look, but frankly, people are
ranking him too low for the solid situation he find himself in.
We take Folk here, and are thrilled, and we fully expect him to
rank in the top 15.

While I gave some consideration to
the still undrafted Kevin Smith as this year's FanEx Mr.
Irrelevant, I couldn't go with just one tight end on my
roster. Ben Watson should fulfill the role that Kellen
Winslow had with the Browns, and should be a decent TE#2 for
me. Sometimes the analysis really is that
simple.
